I just want an unlocked phone with a plan and contract. My recent phone broke and now, I just have the sim card. I can’t get a phone from the company I’m with because I didn’t sign a contract. So where can I buy an unlocked phone? I want legitimate sites and places I could go to. Thanks!

because i was looking at phones on ebay and i keep coming across unlocked ones. i know that unlocked meand the phone is unlocked for any network, but not much else beyond that. i’ve just never really looked into it before lol. anyways, i know that the stores don’t usually sell unlocked phones themselves, so the owner of the phone must have done it themselves using a software or something [i think?] anyways basically is it safe to buy an unlocked phone on ebay from a seller, or could it be problematic? thanks!

Please don’t just say ebay. Be specific. I have been on ebay as well and there are a lot of sellers on there that straight out lie to you. They sell you refurbished or previously used cellphones and make no mention of that. I want to be able to buy from a credible place. I even saw that unlocked phones on amazon are often copies. An example of that is the motorola razr that has a shell that is entirely made of plastic instead of metal.

The best place to get a good unlocked phone is to purchase from the manufacturer themselves. You will pay a little more than you would on ebay or by getting a discounted upgrade through your carrier but you get a better selection and you are protected by the manufacturer’s one year warranty.
